Elissa Klein, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I have been providing psychotherapy in the state of California since 2004. The first 13 years of my career was spent working with people involved in the criminal justice system where I learned to effectively treat trauma, anxiety, impulse control issues, abusive behaviors, addiction, sexual compulsivity and difficulties establishing and maintaining intimate relationships. In 2010, I became the Director for Training of a large forensic psychotherapy agency in the Bay Area and in this role had the opportunity to train others in how to do this important work. In 2018, I took these skills into working with the wider population and added couple's work to my practice. Throughout these career changes, my belief in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship has been the backbone of my practice.

I graduated with a Masters in Social Welfare, Mental Health focus, from the University of California, Berkeley. I attended Pennsylvania State University for my undergraduate degree, where I studied Political Science with a double minor in Spanish and Russian languages. My academic background has fostered my focus on the fact that individuals and families function within larger social systems that impact our relationships, our identities and our mental health. I bring this systems-based perspective to my therapy practice.

Some Basic Information

I offer virtual therapy for both couples and individuals. Please visit my page on Couple's Therapy and my Expertise page to learn more about my work in Individual and Couple's therapy.

My fee is $200 per 50-53 minute session for both individual and couple's work. I can do longer sessions, especially in the case of couples, and my fee will be prorated.

I do not accept any insurances directly. However, for most individual therapy clients, I can offer a superbill so that the client can seek out-of-network reimbursement for services. I do not offer superbills for couple's work. Feel free to ask me more about my policies and practices around superbills.

I continue to work with those in the criminal justice system, whether in a pretrial phase or for those seeking to enter a mental health diversion program.

I offer a free 20-minute consultation to assess for rightness of fit. Please take advantage of this to get to know me a bit and  to ask any questions that you have.

Individual Therapy

I work with you to uncover the root causes of your distress, exploring past wounds and experiences that may be holding you back. Together, we'll develop strategies to help you build self-awareness.

Couples Therapy

I use primarily an EFT approach to couple's therapy, an attachment based therapy based on the idea that a couple can solve any problem together once their confidence in their bond is restored.
